It’s about a 30 minute commute along Hwy 620 from Lakeway to Austin, although working from home is a growing trend. Archaeologists have discovered all kinds of relics here, from prehistoric humanoid remains to dinosaur footprints to mastodon skeletons. It is not unusual to find ancient fossils washed up after heavy rains. More recent signs of the Tonkawas Indians are everywhere, as are signs of the Commanches, Apaches, and Mescaleros, who moved into the area over time.
White settlers arrived in Lakeway in the 1800’s, attracted by the lush beauty and abundant water and game.
